Survey of Career Needs for Developing Digital Media in Career Guidance for Senior High School Students in Pekanbaru City
Abstract
Career planning is an essential aspect of student development, as the decisions made at this stage will influence both their future educational pathways and career choices. However, many students face difficulties in recognizing their own potential and accessing appropriate career information, which makes them vulnerable to making unsuitable decisions. Issues such as the lack of integrated career guidance services, limited student understanding of their own interests and talents, and the scarcity of accessible information media pose significant challenges in the career planning process at schools. This study aims to analyze the career needs of senior high school students as the basis for developing a digital career application to support the identification of their interests and talents. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The research population consisted of senior high school students in Pekanbaru City, with a sample of 430 respondents. The findings indicate that early identification of students’ interests and talents is crucial in helping them plan careers aligned with their potential. Therefore, based on the results of the career needs analysis, there is a need for innovative approaches that can assist students in better understanding themselves and provide relevant information regarding suitable career options.
